Membership Update and Notice of MEOA Annual General Meeting   

MEOA would like to take this opportunity to update you on some of the activities that have taken place since September 2005.  Our main focus this past year centered on activities in conjunction with the grievance that was filed respecting the new EO classification specifications.  Highlights are as follows:  

• In September 2005 some of the members presented resolutions at regional MGEU bargaining meetings.
• In October 2005 a meeting was held with union representatives and some members of the “EO Series Review working group” to discuss the process and methods used by the working committee for evaluation of classification specifications for the EO Series Review.  
• On December 21, 2005 the Union filed a grievance regarding the new EO classification specifications. The grievance focused on the following:

- Cease and desist implementation of the new classification specifications.

- Cease and desist the slotting of employees under the new classification specifications.

- Any member affected will remain at the current classification specification.

- Notification to be revoked. 

• In January 2006 MEOA sent a letter on behalf of members to Human Resources emphasizing the concerns of the EO series review.
• On February 16, 2006 members presented at the MGEU bargaining session.  The presentation was well received by both Union and management.  The presentation focused on “what we do”, the number of programs EO’s are responsible for and the lack of staffing.
• In May 2006 some members along with union representation met with management and Human Resources to discuss the grievance.
• In June 2006 a copy of the position paper outlining “what we do” was sent to the Minister of Conservation. 
• Most recently on October 2, 2006 members met with the Union lawyers to discuss appeal of the grievance.

The annual general meeting is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. on November 7, 2006 at the Ukrainian National Federation Hall, St. Boniface 412 Marion Street.  Last year, unfortunately, we had a disappointing turn out for the meeting so we are hoping to have a better turn out at this years meeting.  We encourage everyone interested to attend and help build our association.  We are always looking for volunteers and for new ideas so that we have a voice in our respective departments of Conservation and Water Stewardship.
