March 10, 2006 - Bargaining Update

The MGEU and MEOA have been working jointly to encourage Environment Officers across the Province to participate in the union meetings of the Physical Science Component which took place in September 2005.  Several Environment Officers across the Province put forth Master Bargaining Proposal Forms requesting a pay adjustment to the Environment Officer Series.  As a result of the enormous response at these meetings, the Physical Science Component representative at Bargaining requested the Environment Officers put forth a presentation at the Bargaining Table on February 16, 2005.  Yvonne Hawryliuk and Donna Smiley presented on behalf of all Environment Officers to over 20 representatives form the Union and Government.

The Presentation was based on consultation and brainstorming with other Environment Officers and MEOA representatives who put forth Master Bargaining Proposal.  Additional information was collected from the Union and Staff in both Manitoba Conservation and Waste Stewardship.  Thank you to all who provided assistance.  The basis of the presentation was that the Environment Officer Series must reflect a pay scale that is competitive with industry, other Provinces, and city governments and accounts for the increased work demands, technical expertise required, high liabilities and staff shortages.  Overtime to be paid at premium rates.
