Message from the Secretary

December 2004

Greetings

On behalf of the MEOA Executive I wish to provide you with an update as to the activities that have taken place since we last met at our first annual meeting in September.

Please find enclosed a copy of the minutes from our annual general meeting along with a copy of the revised constitution and a message from the association President. 

In November members of the executive met with Honourable Stan Struthers the Minister of Conservation and Honourable Steve Ashton the Minister of Water Stewardship.  Topics for discussion at these meetings included:

• MEOA background (who we are),

• Environment Officers Educational Conference

• Environment Officer Series Review

• Integration, and Recruitment and Mentoring.

We also met with Peter Olfert, President, MGEU.  Concerns were expressed regarding the EO series review and the lack of information and communication regarding this process.

In November a letter was sent to the Human Resources Services Sector requesting a meeting with the MEOA executive to discuss the EO series review.

We have registered the domain name meoa@mts.net, and the website is currently under development.  If anyone is interested in assisting with the construction of the website, or if you have any idea’s for the future direction of the website, please contact the webmaster.

As a follow up to our meetings with the Minister of Conservation and Minister of Water Stewardship, MEOA intends to prepare and forward a position paper on the Environmental Programs and the Environment Officer Series for their information.  If you have any comments or suggestions regarding the content of the position paper please forward your thoughts to us via email at meoa@mts.net.
